Oily fish slash breast cancer risk - Nutrition & Healing

Two servings a week slashes breast cancer risk 14%

From the moment you?re blindsided with a breast cancer diagnosis, you?ll have a team of hack-happy surgeons drawing knives faster than the Three Musketeers could unsheathe their swords. They may call cancer the ?Big C? but it?s often followed by two other C?s that leave you sick, nauseous and disfigured ? chemo and cutting.

But here?s a little slice of truth you?re never going to hear in your surgeon?s office. You don?t need a knife to conquer breast cancer for good ? but you may need a fork.

That?s because according to new research from China, beating breast cancer may not be quite as easy as shooting fish in a barrel ? but it could be as easy as eating them from a can.

In fact, a massive new study of 20,000 breast cancer cases found that peeling back the lid on a can of sardines twice a week may be all it takes to drop your risk of breast cancer by a whopping 14%!

Sounds fishy? Hear me out. You see, oily fish such as salmon, tuna, and sardines are packed to the gills with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that prevent inflammation and help bolster your body?s immune system.

So researchers from Zhejiang University in China analyzed studies of more than 800,000 women and 20,000 cases of breast cancer and found that those who incorporated the most PUFAs in their diet had a dramatically lower risk of developing breast cancer. For every tenth of a gram that women increased their daily consumption of PUFAs, they dropped their cancer risk by 5% ? and the women who consumed the most oily fish had a 14% lower risk of ever developing life-threatening breast cancer.

The best part of the study is that you won?t have to spend meal after meal choking down sardine salads and tuna melts to help keep breast cancer at bay. Just one or two servings a week of oily fish are all you need to give your body all the PUFAs it needs to give you an edge in the war on cancer.

Start working sardines, salmon, and tuna onto your weekly menu, and you just might get all three of the Big C?s ? cancer, chemo, and cutting ? out of your life forever.
