Making the Right Choice With DIY Home Improvement There Are ...

We know very well that you have heard about payday loans online because it is talked about so much all over the place. Maybe you are not totally aware of the wide-ranging effects that exist elsewhere. Many people tend to skim and scan when they read, habit from the internet, but that is not recommended when you read informative material because you will miss things that can help you. Therefore, all anyone can do, and what we suggest, is that you go through this with an open mind.

Even if you feel that a particular application or piece of information does not speak to you directly, we urge you to have an open mind about it.

Your house might need some repairs or you just want to change the way it looks, so one thing you can do is DIY home improvement. Before you start, you need to make sure you have plenty of time, enough money and your skill level is good enough to complete the project. You can save some money by making changes that are needed around your house, as long as you can be committed to the project. The suggestions that are following can be helpful for anyone who wants to improve their home by themselves.

There were some debates on our end about what all to include about payday loans no credit check.

We are in the process of writing much more about this topic, and they may be done by the time you read this.

The web has such an amazing amount of content on it that you are sure to find much more.

Never think that something like this, learning more, is not important or does not matter because it does. There are always options, and the path to finding the best ones is through accurate content. Home repairs of any kind, or improvements, should only be done under safe conditions. Construction work brings with it some necessary precautions that most inexperienced people know very little about. Make sure you use eye protection when dealing with any tools or materials that could pose a risk to your eyes. So many different things can get in your eyes, such as plaster and wood chips, so use eye protection. To keep from damaging your hearing around the loud power tools, ear protection is vital. Permanent hearing loss can be the result of hours on end exposure to high decibel sounds. A particle mask can save you from having breathing problems, stemming from the toxic substances, such as dust, mold and insulation which you breathe in. A lot of home improvement projects call for a permit. This can be contrasting between communities and with what you plan to do, although you need to check into it well in advance. When you have a contractor doing the project for you, he will generally obtain any necessary permits, but nevertheless if you are performing the work yourself, this becomes your responsibility. In many cases, obtaining a permit is pretty easy and doesn?t cost a lot of money, but it can reduce your chances of stress and possible fines in the future. If you ever have a hankering to sell your home, than obtaining the correct permits is really important, because if you do any type of major project without a permit, this will come back later to affect you and make it harder to find someone who is able to buy your home.

Don?t mess up in the way a lot of DIYers do, which is to be too excited at the start of a project, but to not do the right amount of planning. One of the most important aspects to reflect upon is the measurements. For quite a few projects, even small boo-boos when it comes to measuring can have terrible outcomes and wreck the whole project. It doesn?t matter if you are using a notebook or a computer, but the most ideal method for getting ready for a home improvement task is to write it all down. This takes into account the budget, materials needed, finances and an estimate of the amount of time it will take. While it?s likely that as you proceed, the plans may change from time to time, this will at least enable you to make a productive start and avoid many mishaps.

With all of the many plans for DIY projects around the home, there should be lots you can do. A lot of the jobs will take very little time with hardly any expense, and yet others will be quite expensive and take a lot of time. As long as you know what permits you need, along with how much the labor and material costs will be, you will be prepared to start any plan that you choose. You can give your home a great new look, by keeping these DIY home improvement guidelines in mind.

Discovering more about no credit check loans is much like anything else in that you will have to resolve things along the way. After so much time since the internet came into being, one of the biggest problems facing us is having so much information available.

There is nothing unusual at all about conflicts between points of view and what people find in their own research.

But make no mistake when you are dealing with these exact issues, and the nature of them compel you to make sure everything is right and professional in any way.

Everyone wants to and needs to have solid information, and so then you just have to do what is necessary when you need to know the truth.

Dow could be in for letdown after 13,000

? Brendan Mcdermid / Reuters / REUTERS

Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

By Roland Jones

The Dow Jones industrial average has reclaimed the 13,000 spot -- a level it hasn?t seen since?the Bush administration was in charge and Lehman Bros.?was still doing business on Wall Street.

But don?t pop the Champagne corks just yet. Market analysts say 13,000 isn?t just a psychological level for investors, it could also prove to be a point of resistance for stock prices.

?There are a couple of things that bother me,? said Hugh Johnson, chief investment officer of Hugh Johnson Advisors in Albany, N.Y.

Johnson calculates that?from a market valuation perspective, stock market indices are about?8 percent higher than they?should be. And, ironically, growing optimism is another potentially negative indicator, he said in?an interview on CNBC.

?When there?s fairly widespread optimism and the market is overvalued you have to brace yourself for a little bit of a correction,? he said, adding that economic reports coming for February had ?better be good? or they could ?touch off a correction? in stock prices.

?So I am a little bit concerned, but all within the context of an ongoing bull market,? he said. ?Common sense says if we?ve moved up 20 percent since October, we should probably pay attention to that.?

A study by Schaeffer?s Investment Research is also cautious about the Dow hitting 13,000.

Schaeffer?s looked at how the Dow has performed on the 39 occasions it passed a 1,000-point increment and found that in the weeks following the event the Dow fell on average 0.4 percent and had a positive return less than half the time. By comparison, the Dow typically averages a gain of 0.28 percent over any two-week period and has a positive return more than half the time, according to?Schaeffer?s.

?The study shows you can see short-term weakness at these times because of the old adage of the market running on fear and greed. The market can get stalled at these big numbers because people get a bit too optimistic,? said Ryan Detrick, a market analyst at Schaeffer?s.

Longer term, Detrick is bullish about the market?s prospects. He points out that many investors have remained overly cautious as the overall market, as measured by the broad Standard & Poor?s 500-stock index, has rallied over 20 percent from its October low.

?We know many investors have missed out on this rally,? Detrick said. ?So we think that as the economy turns around more money will work in the system.?

Since 2007, investors have poured some $800 billion into the relative safety of bond funds while pulling some?$450 billion?out of equity mutual funds, according to the Investment Company Institute, a fund industry trade group.

?We?ve had the best start to the year for the market in decades, yet money is still going into bonds,? said?Detrick. ?That means a lot of money can come out of bonds and go into equities, once people realize they don?t need to be in this crisis mode. We think there is strong upside potential.?

Despite its recent rise, the Dow is still short of its all-time closing high of 14,164 seen in early October 2007. On the other hand, the index is nearly double its March 2009 post-crash low of 6,547.

Will the stock market move higher this year? Discuss on Facebook.

Folks behind 'Carrie' return to boldly re-imagine (omg!)

In this image released by The O+M Company, actress Molly Ranson stars in the title role of the reimagined musical based on Stephen King's novel "Carrie," performing at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York. (AP Photo/The O+M Company, Joan Marcus)

NEW YORK (AP) ? When the musical "Carrie" had a sudden early death on Broadway in 1988, few were as unhappy as three men who worked hard to give it life.

Lawrence D. Cohen, Michael Gore and Dean Pitchford, who wrote the book, music and lyrics, clearly weren't happy with the final product, which closed after five regular performances, lost $8 million and became the most expensive flop in Broadway history at the time.

Despite offers to produce the show elsewhere, the trio refused. "We had no desire or intention to re-experience the 'Carrie' that closed on Broadway in the state that it was in ever again," said Cohen. "If we were ever to see it again, we were determined to go back to work on it and get the show that was in our heads."

That day, he said, has now dawned ? 24 years later.

A new version of the show that became a yardstick for failure ? critic Ken Mandelbaum named his book about stage failures, "Not Since Carrie: Forty Years of Broadway Musical Flops" ? opens Thursday off-Broadway at MCC Theater.

"We've gone back and looked at every single inch ? even numbers that were working fine ? to see if we could do better, if they could be deepened," said Cohen. "It was important to look at everything and scrutinize it from that perspective."

There may be few more fraught undertakings in the theater than what Cohen and his team have done ? the so-called "re-imagined" work. Reinterpreting a classic work, even if the original was a dismal failure, is a risky business.

The new "Carrie," directed by Stafford Arima, will be the third high-profile re-imagined musical in New York this season, following the reworking of "Porgy and Bess," which is a hit, and "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" with Harry Connick Jr., which failed.

Diane Paulus knows all too well what that nervous "Carrie" team is likely going through, having survived what she called the "lion's mouth" of critical bashing even before her re-imagined "Porgy & Bess" made its way to New York.

Paulus, the artistic director of the American Repertory Theater, adapted the Gershwin opera for the Broadway stage with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks and Obie Award-winning composer Diedre Murray.

The team condensed the four-hour opera into a two-and-one-half-hour musical, eliminated a lot of the repetitiveness and tried to deepen the characters. Their effort generated headlines when purists including Stephen Sondheim complained that a musical treasure was being corrupted.

"People maybe interpreted that we were saying we thought we could do something better than the opera or could replace it, but that was never the intention," Paulus says by phone from Montreal, where she's directing the Cirque du Soleil show "Amaluna."

"We all hope that people will see the work and see the work with an open heart and see the work as what it is," she adds. "Whatever happens, the classic texts will always live because that's what makes it a classic."

The controversy actually may have helped sell tickets on Broadway. "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" opened in January starring Audra McDonald, David Alan Grier and Norm Lewis to strong reviews and has been extended to September.

"What kept me focused throughout this journey and the process was the commitment to the work and just feeling clear that the work had to speak for itself," said Paulus, but adds with a laugh: "Maybe we should have never talked about anything prior to the show being done."

The other side of the "re-imagined" coin was the failure of Connick's show, which only played 29 previews and 57 regular performances. Like "Porgy & Bess," more than a scalpel was used on the original 1965 musical "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever."

The classic version ? turned into a 1970 film with Barbra Streisand ? was about a psychiatrist who fell in love with a woman from one of his patient's past lives. Michael Mayer, the director behind "Spring Awakening" and "American Idiot," revised it so that the female therapy patient was now a gay man who used to be a woman.

Connick was a fan of the music, but not of the original story. "It didn't make any sense," he said in an interview in December before the show opened. He said he would not have been part of the show unless changes were made.

"For all intents and purposes, this is a new show. I mean, it's completely redone, re-conceptualized," he said. Critics and the audience agreed, but they were even more confused by the gender switching and the show closed early.

Revising, reinventing or reworking shows is, of course, nothing new. Irving Berlin's "Annie Get Your Gun" was edited to remove stereotypes for a 1999 revival and some of Sondheim's own lyrics for "West Side Story" were translated into Spanish in 2009. The current revival of "Godspell" has been rejigged to include jokes about Steve Jobs and Charlie Sheen.

But the long road back for "Carrie" must be perhaps the bravest. After all, the original creative team has returned to the scene of the crime and rolled up their sleeves to look again at the story of a bullied teen with telekinetic powers who struggles against her overbearing mother.

One of the driving forces behind the re-imagining is Arima, who saw the original much-maligned production when he was a 19-year-old visiting from Toronto with his mother for a blitz of theater. On April 30, 1988, the pair went to see "Carrie." He recalls a great score marred by terrible production flaws ? pyrotechnics, strange effects and overwrought costumes.

"The main thing I remember about experiencing 'Carrie' was the audience," he recalled. "There was such a visceral response and I'd never been to something where the roars of reaction were very, very clear."

Arima didn't give it another thought until the death of his mother in 2008. As he dealt with his grief, he recalled her gift to him of loving the theater and "Carrie" popped into his mind.

"The character of Carrie was misunderstood, and I believe that the musical of 1988 was also misunderstood," he said. "It wasn't intended for people to laugh at it or even to laugh with it. The story at its core is a serious piece."

Arima contacted the original creators at a time when they, too, were thinking about revisiting the flop, which suffered from an inexperienced creative team and a flighty producer. A quick initial meeting turned into a 10-hour discussion the next day as they re-examined every page of the script.

"With the right alignment of creative forces, we decided to take a leap of faith, jump off the cliff and say, 'We're going to re-explore and reinvent this piece for today in a way that highlights the story, focuses in on the relationship between mother and daughter and allows this really exciting score to be heard,'" said Arima.

The re-imagined "Carrie" has new songs, a different structure, and the story is told from a different point of view. It also teases out two themes that seem very current: bullying and religious fundamentalism.

Arima said he was unwilling to just tinker with a couple of notes or a couple of scenes but wanted to really give the reworked musical "Carrie" its own identity separate from Stephen King's novel, the 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek, or the 1988 musical.

"What I've never been a fan of ? and not just with 'Carrie' but anything ? is if you take source material that was a film or a novel and you merely put that film or novel onto the stage, you're doing a disservice to the theater audience," he said.

Cohen said there are lessons he's learned that could apply to all re-imagined shows: Try as best as you can to get the piece onstage to match your vision. Go back to the original story. And don't be scared of ripping it all up and starting over.

He thinks he and his team have done that now.

Finally.

"I don't think we wanted vindication per se at all. I think we wanted to see the vision irrespective of the world, irrespective of the critics which we can't control, irrespective of anything. We wanted to see the version of it that we hadn't seen."

Why a Mid-Market or Multi-Site Business Should Use MPLS-Based ...

MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) is not the only wide area network solution a distributed organization might consider using, as some might in the past have used frame relay or synchronous transfer mode services, or even private lines. But MPLS has one salient advantage: it was built to support classes of service. Each organization can set its own priorities about how important certain applications are, and give those applications expedited handling.

MPLS also allows a distributed business enterprise to set policies that protect and enhance the performance of some applications, even when networks are congested.

On virtually any network, congestion will impair performance of real-time applications such as IP telephony, business video conferencing or other communications. The whole point when using MPLS is to give real time apps such as voice or videoconferencing, which are highly sensitive to delay, the highest priority for delivery.

Other types of traffic, such as email or web surfing, are highly tolerant of delay and can safely be assigned lower priorities for handling through the network. In many cases, someplace in the middle are business data applications, which might not require the absolute highest priority for delivery, but benefit from expedited handling, compared to email or web surfing.

Whenever IP telephony, video conferencing or video streaming is ?mission critical,? IP VPNs are worth considering.

When a firm has multiple locations and spends significant money on older technology like private lines or frame relay, or if its older VPN gear or network frequently crashes and VoIP isn?t working consistently, IP VPNs and MPLS deserve a look.

When a business has legal compliance requirements and must move its data securely and doesn?t want to encrypt everything, as in a medical imaging scenario, MPLS and IP VPNs make sense.

By definition, MPLS makes most sense for distributed organizations that need to connect various sites. Originally, MPLS was seen as way to create a single, unified network that might be using a mix of transport networks and access methods (T1/E1, ATM, Frame Relay and DSL).

These days, businesses are migrating to use of IP networks that are affordable, flexible and yet secure when IP VPNs are used.

As a result, the IP VPN market in North America grew at a compound annual growth rate?of eight percent between 2008 and 2010, according to Research & Markets. MPLS VPN services accounted for the largest share (81 percent) within the IP VPN market in 2010. The advantages of TelePacific?s MPLS 1Net illustrate why:

  • - Customers can eliminate firewalls, encryption and tunnels to improve performance while cutting costs and unnecessary workload.
  • - No extra or specialized hardware is required for private communications between IP VPN locations, which saves capital costs
  • - Customers can preserve existing IP address schemes, which means less work on implementation.
  • - Customers get the same level of security and privacy as private line, ATM and frame relay services for fewer dollars.

Whether a business has multiple sites locally, nationally or internationally, 1Net can deliver ?any- to-any? private and secure communications at less cost and more efficiency, and the solution can be deployed quickly. We recently deployed a 40-location 1Net solution in just 30 days, for example. PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond (Wii) Review | Video Games News ...

If you?ve read my Pokemon Rumble Blast review, you know I?m a huge Pokemon fan. So when I give a Pokemon video game a less than stellar score, you know that there have to be some problems with it. Well, in the case of PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond, it really stems from the poor controls and branches out into some very harsh limitations associated with those controls. Now don?t get me wrong, kids and fans of the series will still get some enjoyment, it just isn?t perfect.

The game actually starts out in a really?cool fashion with?Reshiram?and Zekrom?talking?about how the world could end, which?they are okay with, but that?there is light.? Queue Pikachu?appearing on screen?and meeting up with?Piplup. I won?t bore you with the details but you can expect some long winded conversations that finally lead you to Wish Park.

Apparently, Pokemon are visiting that area and not returning, forcing you to travel there and investigate. Well, after some pretty interesting story developments, Piplup?gets trapped in Wish Park and you, as Pikachu,?go on a quest to?save him. In order to do this, you must search around the tiny game world,?befriending Pokemon in order to advance to new areas. Instead of including a myriad of different ways to befriend the Pokemon, it really just boils down to three: Chase, battling, or a simple fetch quest.

Chase is just a standard game of tag, that has you racing after a Pokemon by tapping 1 furiously and shaking the Wii Remote to do a big boost. Battling places you in a small arena with your opponent, blasting them away with your Thunderbolt or hitting them hard with Iron Tail, and fetch quests are fetch quests. The main issue with all of these, and the entire game, is the fact that the game is controlled entirely with the Wii Remote and doesn?t include the Nunchuk in any way.

Being that PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond?is a fully fledged 3D adventure game, with some surprisingly good graphics and extremely catchy battle music,?controlling it with the D-pad?is a maddening experience. Just moving around has now become an impossible task because you never quite have complete control over where your character is going. This is especially true when you are playing Chase because opponents will often do a sharp turn, causing?you to?lose them pretty quickly?while crashing into something. I have never played the original game, but I know the controls were a problem and I just don?t know why they didn?t fix it.

As much as the simple act of moving around is a chore due to the controls, battling is also heavily hindered by them as well. Since there are so few buttons on the Wii Remote, you only have 2 moves at your disposal throughout the entire game. You may be able to power up your Thunderbolt and Iron Tail, but you don?t have Electro Tail or Volt Tackle in the game, a glaring omission. By including a Nunchuk, they could have easily upped the move total to 3 or 4 and had battles be very interesting and strategic, instead of very one-note and easy. Once you figure out that all you have to do is dodge and unleash an Iron Tail repeatedly to win battles, the game will breeze by.

One awesome new feature that was implemented since the first game?is the addition of more playable characters. Instead of just controlling Pikachu,?you are given Oshawott, Snivy, and Tepig to help you out. Each Pokemon adds something new to the game, such as swimming, jumping higher, or a boulder-breaking tackle attack. Switching between Pokemon to complete?tasks is a lot of fun and I?m glad they expanded upon the 1 character gameplay seen in the previous version.

Having these extra characters in the game does add a bit of strategy to your battles, but again, the lack of moves is disappointing. Snivy?gets Leaf Storm and Leaf Tornado, but no Solarbeam?or Razor Leaf. Oshawott?gets Water Gun and Razor Shell, yet no Aqua Jet or Hydro Pump. Tepig gets Flamethrower and Heat Crash (which is a hilarious butt stomp attack), yet no Fire Blast or Fire Spin. As much fun as the battling and exploring the over?100 different Pokemon was, I was always hoping for more?to do?and I never got it.

The only real variety could be attributed to the mini games you encounter while in Wish Park. Each time you visit Wish Park to save Pokemon from the big bad in the game (I won?t ruin the surprise, but it isn?t?a Pokemon introduced in?Black and White), you have to defeat other Pokemon such as Cofagrigus?or Chandelure. Before battling them?in an easy, yet interesting fashion,?you have to?partake in some?mini games that involve making cupcakes or dancing? seriously. In order to complete them, you point the Wii Remote at the screen or shake it in time. Once you beat them, they are available to play in multiplayer but they just aren?t fun enough to play again.

Despite my love of Pokemon, PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond was a bit of a disappointment. It only takes about 8 hours to beat (10 hours if you want to befriend everyone),?it has very little variety in the?moves, and it is a very easy game. They may have captured the pure essence of Pokemon, creating a?fun to explore world,?but the?numerous shortcomings hold it back.

IBM: We're on the cusp of the Quantum Computing revolution (video)

Technology's holy grail is the development of a "perfect" Quantum Computer. Traditional computers recognize information as bits: binary information that represent "On" or "Off" states. A Quantum Computer uses qubits; operating in superposition, it exists in all states simultaneously -- not just "On" or "Off," but every possible state in-between. It would theoretically be able to instantly access every piece of information at the same time, meaning that a 250 qubit computer would contain more data than there are particles in the universe. IBM thinks it's closer than ever to realizing this dream and if you want to know more, we have the full details after the break.

The Insomnia Exercise Program Can Teach Your Mind In Order To ...

New Health And Fitness.Org - Health Information You Can Use

You might not realize this but there?s actually a method to train yourself to go to sleep. The reality is that retraining your brain to make you go to sleep is now something that is very possible with a new program that is guaranteed. A few of you may actually be a little pessimistic about trying something new as you?ve tried so many things in the past. The reality is that this program has actually been proven by 9 out of 10 insomnia sufferers that it works better than sleeping pills. It is going to put you back in control of your own sleep, which has no unwanted side effects, no lifestyle changes and no CDs with relaxation or even hypnosis.

This program is in fact so effective that you will find that falling asleep anywhere, and in addition instantly is something you?ll have the ability to do. The way this program works is very simple, you simply training your brain to relax rather than considering everything. Many people use various kinds of sleep aids to get to sleep but you will find this program will enable you to stop taking them. All you need to do is pay attention to an audio track that they provide and you?ll be able to fall asleep whenever you want. Should you have two or more nights each and every week where you do not get a restful sleep you should understand that this is affecting your mood. One or two nights without having sleep won?t affect you too much, but once it starts being that way each and every week, your life will begin to be affected. It?s going to then snow-ball until you are going through life like a zombie.

Plenty of men and women have found that using hypnosis or medication in order to deal with their insomnia is something which they either don?t like or is just ineffective. It is a wise idea to alter your diet and lifestyle in order to become healthier, but it doesn?t necessarily help with your sleep. You are also going to see that a lot of people attempt to use natural herbs in an attempt to deal with their insomnia however this is also not effective for loads of individuals. This could all change for you if you are ready to try training your brain through the training in the Insomnia Exercise Program. It?s a program developed by Christian Goodman who had previously been an insomnia sufferer for years.

Christian research?s natural health treatments, and for this reason he tried a number of different all natural cures but absolutely nothing seemed to work for him. It got to the point where Christian could not remedy his insomnia but could find a number of ways to help other people with various medical conditions. This was until he discovered the key to insomnia, where all you have to do is switch off your mind. The way he found to do this was something which he actually figured out by accident when he was on a camping trip, and he took this information and produced this program.

You can get this system, known as the insomnia Exercise Program and figure out how to fall asleep with ease. A lot of people actually like the point that they will no longer have to take any type of medication in order to get to sleep like they have done so very often in past times. Once you learn to do this, the program will work for you anywhere.

Vikersund Ski Flying Review for iPhone and iPad

Posted by Mike Lata on Feb 25, 2012 at 8:36 pm | 0 ? Digg story
Filed Under: Entertainment ? Featured ? Games ? iPad ? iPhone ? New Apps ? News ? Reviews

Are you a fan of the Winter Olympic Games or enjoy watching ski jumping competitions? Have you always wanted to do such a long jump from a slope off your skiis, but didn?t want to hurt yourself in the process? IF the answer is yes to any of these questions, check out Vikersund Ski Flying for iPhone and iPad. The game is a universal app and available on the App Store for only $.99.

Review

The game was recently released to coincide with the upcoming Vikersund Ski FLying World Championship. The competition is happening in Norway right now and should be a blast for fans of the sport. The game replicates the spirit of this competition in the sense it gives you an inside view of what participating in such a sport can be like. There aren?t many, if any, other skii jumping games on the App Store or even other gaming systems to my knowledge.

Vikersund Ski Flying lets you pick a nation to represent, and you will have to guide your skiier down the ramp until it is time for him to jump. You will also be guiding his landing for a high score. The aim in the game, and this sport in general, is to jump as far as possible from the ramp. The game allows you to tap for jump as well as tap for the landing and you can tap on directional arrows to guide your skiier?s motion and lean while in mid flight. There are left and right arrows that govern the way he puts his weight in mid-jump.

The sound effects are well implemented. You will be able to hear the sound of the snow as your skiier slides down the slope as well as the bell signaling the coming-up jump. There is also background music in the title playing in the selection screen as well as the loading screen. The visual department is very polygon based, but nice to look at. The backgrounds consist of trees, buildings and other near-by slopes.

Overall, the game may bore some of you, due to its repetitive nature, but that is the sport for you. To any of you who are skiers, or watch ski jumping, you should find it a blast or at least a nice distraction while you watch the competition on TV.

Recommendation

Vikersund Ski FLying is a safe alternative to the adrenaline-fueled sport of ski jumping. It is recommended to anyone intereste din the sport or fans of ski jumping in general.

The likelihood of a Talking Heads reunion these days is pretty slim, but it sure is fun to watch live footage from the bands heyday especially when Adrian Belew and Bernie Worrell are in the band. Check out this incredible version ?Crosseyed and Painless.? I love the opening jam segment, which lasts for a little over a minute before the band launches into the song. Pure funk! Check it out.

Iran: Attack will lead to Israel's collapse

(AP) ? Iran's defense minister warned that an Israeli attack on Iran will lead to the collapse of the Jewish state, state-run television reported Saturday, in one of the strongest statements from Iran indicating it would punish Israel should it attack Iran's nuclear facilities.

The comments by Gen. Ahmad Vahidi on Press TV come as Israel has recently stepped up its verbal threats that it may attack Iran's nuclear facilities. The U.S., Israel and many in the West fear that Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons while Iran insists its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes such as producing energy.

Israel has pointedly not ruled out a military strike designed to cripple Iran's nuclear program, something Vahidi warned against Saturday.

"A military attack by the Zionist regime (against Iran) will undoubtedly lead to the collapse of this regime," he was quoted as saying. The defense minister did not say what type of action Iran would take in such a scenario.

Israeli officials say Israel must act by the summer if it wants to effectively halt Iran's program because Tehran is moving more of its nuclear installations deep underground.

Iran has spread its nuclear facilities across the vast country and has built key portions underground to protect them from possible airstrikes.

Israel views Iran as an existential threat, citing frequent calls by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for Israel's destruction, Iran's support for violent anti-Israel militant groups and its long range missile program.

Israel has shown in the past that it is willing to take unilateral action if it feels justified. In 1981, the Israeli air force destroyed an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor. And in 2007, Israeli warplanes are believed to have destroyed a target that foreign experts think was an unfinished nuclear reactor in Syria.

Iran has warned in the past that Tehran would respond to an attack against it by barraging Israel with missiles. It could also use its proxies Hezbollah and Hamas to launch rockets into the Jewish state, and cause global oil prices to spike by striking targets in the Gulf.

Iran's arsenal already boasts missiles with a range of about 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) that were specifically designed for Israel and U.S. targets. The two missiles in Iran's possession that have such a range are the Shahab-3 and the Sajjil.

Iran's military leaders say the Persian state possesses technology to manufacture missiles with a range greater than 1,250 miles, but it doesn't feel the need to do so.

The Revolutionary Guard, Iran's most powerful military force which is in charge of Iran's missile program, unveiled underground smart missile silos last year, claiming that medium- and long-range missiles stored in them are ready to launch if Iran was attacked.

The silos are widely viewed as a strategic asset for Iran in the event of a U.S. or Israeli strike on its nuclear facilities because it greatly reduces the time for Iran to respond to strikes.

Investing with time on your side | The Madison-Press

Investing is an activity that belongs in every stage of your life. By investing early and steadily, young investors can seize the opportunity to achieve financial security sooner, rather than later. Yet when you?re young, it?s tempting to delay saving and investing until a more convenient time. The truth is, the best time to start socking money away for your future is right now ? before you have a mortgage, children or other obligations.

Adopt the saving habit and get a head start

Like any behavior, saving is a habit that requires discipline. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. Focus on the rewards of being financially independent to instill a saver?s mindset. With careful investing, your savings have the potential to grow which will reinforce your good habits.

Remember that time is a powerful ally in the investor?s portfolio. Investment earnings that are allowed to grow over time benefit from compounding. With compounding, you earn interest on your interest earnings, creating a financial snowball effect over time.

Employ time-sensitive strategies

While investing for the long term is an important goal, it shouldn?t be your only consideration. In the years to come, you will encounter short-, moderate- and long-term savings needs that can be addressed with different strategies.

Short-term needs

First things first ? establish an emergency fund. With money set aside for emergencies, you won?t have to resort to credit or empty your bank account to manage an unexpected car repair, medical expense or layoff. Set a goal to save aggressively until you have six months? salary set aside for this purpose.

Your short-term savings need to be liquid, for easy access to cash when you need it. Don?t rely on your piggy bank or mattress, which offer zero growth and invite temptation. Better to stash emergency funds in a standard savings account or, for a slightly higher yield, a bank money market account.

Five years out

When you?re just starting out, you may have specific financial goals such as buying a car or making a down payment on a home that you hope to realize in the near future. When your financial goal is attainable in as few as five years, you may want to utilize laddered certificates of deposit (CDs) to make the most of your savings.

Laddering involves buying CDs with staggered maturity dates. This strategy strikes a balance between the opposing need for liquidity and returns. As your CDs mature along the ladder, you can reinvest the money for a longer period at a more competitive rate knowing that another CD will mature and be available when you might need access to your cash.

The strategy discussed seeks to minimize both the interest rate and the reinvestment risks associated with CDs.

20 years and beyond

Employer-sponsored retirement plans are an optimal way to build savings for a retirement that may be decades away. Take advantage of matching contributions if they are available to you.

An individual retirement account (IRA) is also one of the best bets for your extra investment dollars. In 2012, the maximum allowable contribution to an IRA is the lesser of $5,000 or the amount of your taxable earnings for the year.

IRAs come in several varieties, all of which offer important tax advantages. A traditional IRA is funded with pretax dollars, while a Roth IRA is funded with after-tax dollars and offers the future benefit of tax-free withdrawals in retirement.

While there are some exceptions to early withdrawal penalties for both types of IRA, in general: If you withdraw money from a traditional IRA prior to age 59 1/2, you will have to pay ordinary income taxes and a 10 percent early withdrawal penalty. If you?ve held a Roth IRA for less than five years and withdraw earnings from the IRA before age 59 1/2, you may be subject to income tax and a 10 percent early withdrawal penalty.

There?s also the Education IRA ? now known as a Coverdell Education Saving Account ? which provides a tax-sheltered investment option to save for education costs. This is an important tool to help manage the skyrocketing cost of college tuition for your children.

This option also comes with contribution and distribution limitations that must be followed to avoid penalties.

Diversification does not assure a profit or protect against loss. The strategies discussed in this article may not be successful.

You may decide to invest directly in stocks and bonds to help build future investment income. A generous time horizon allows you to patiently wait for companies to reach their potential and can help you ride out bumps in the market. Maintaining a diversified portfolio of stocks and bonds is one way to balance risk and reward.

Keep in mind that wherever there?s more potential for reward, there?s also more risk. Unless you have the time and skill to analyze and track businesses, investing in mutual funds may be a better option than trying to select individual stocks or time the market. But understand that there is no fool-proof way to invest; mutual funds also fluctuate in value and can cause you to lose some of what you originally invested.

Seek investment advice

Because the process can be complex, consult a financial advisor when you?re ready to invest who can help you apply strategies suited to your financial goals. A financial professional can offer insight and experience and help you adjust your investments as your circumstances change.

Can 'The Artist' Have It Both Ways? | The Wrap Awards

If "The Artist" wins the Academy Award for Best Picture on Sunday night, it will be the first film from a non-English speaking country to win the award.

Or will it?

Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo in The ArtistThe Academy says the black-and-white silent film was made by a number of European production companies.

But the Film Independent Spirit Awards says it qualifies as an American production.

"The Artist" truly crosses boundaries in an international filmmaking landscape where national borders are increasingly blurry.

Also read: Oscar's in Desperate Need of Surprises -- Here's Where They Could Come From

It was launched in Paris but shot in Hollywood. Its title cards are in English, written by a Frenchman ? but on the set, its star said, "We spoke in English, in French, in gibberish, in dog language."

The Frenchman who wrote and directed the film ? and who, according to paperwork submitted to Film Independent, has permanent U.S. resident status ? offered a useful talking point when he won the DGA Award: "I'm not American, and I'm not French, actually. I'm a filmmaker."

The Academy lists "The Artist" as the product of seven different production companies. Five of them ? La Petite Reine, Studio 37, JD Prod, Jouror Productions and France 3 Cinema ? are listed as being France-based by IMDb Pro; one, uFilm Production, is based in Brussels.

Only La Classe Americaine, director Michel Hazanavicius' company, does not have a location listed.

Also read: Awards Season Is Going to the Dogs, Thanks to Uggie from 'The Artist'

On the Weinstein Co.'s submission form for the Spirit Awards, it indicated that the film received partial financing from a company whose principal office is in the United States, and also that writer-director Hazanavicius was a permanent U.S. resident.

Either of those factors would qualify the film as American under Spirit Awards rules.

Hazanavicius is certainly no stranger to blurred lines of nationality. His company, Le Classe Americaine, is named after a 1993 movie he made for French television by taking footage from old American films, re-editing it and dubbing it into French.

Also read: 'Take Shelter,' 'The Artist' Lead Indie Spirit Award Nominations

So when Hazanavicius shows up at the Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon (fresh from a couple of weeks in Paris), he'll be the director of an American indie film.

And when he leaves the Oscars the next evening, he might be the director of the first French film to ever win Best Picture.

Or maybe, as his film has been insisting all along, language and nationality won't matter at all.

'Power Felt' Could Charge Cell Phones Using Body Heat (VIDEO)

Power Felt Body Heat

Researchers at Wake Forest University have developed "Power Felt," a piece of material capable of turning body heat -- together with outside temperatures -- into an electrical current that can charge electronic devices. In the photo, graduate student Corey Hewitt holds up a sample of the material.
