Understanding the Many Benefits Offered by In-Home Elder Care ...

Last updated 21 hours ago

Many people are often anxious about considering elder care for their loved ones, but the truth is that elder care provides a variety of necessary services to those in need.? A family is often unable to provide the necessary help required to support their loved ones in their time of need.? However, elder care at home addresses the needs of everyone by providing the convenience and comfort of a home care companion at an affordable cost.? Take a look at just a few of the ways that in-home elder care can help your family:

Security

Seniors typically have less physical, emotional, and economic reserves to insulate them from the impacts of criminal activities or serious accidents.? In-home elder care offers the protection and support of another person at their side when others may have too many obligations to consistently ensure their safety.

Individual Care

An in-home elder care service offers one-on-one supervision and interaction for your loved one.? A home care companion works with them to ensure both their comfort and peace of mind.

Housekeeping

Due to a variety of factors, elderly people may suffer from debilitating conditions that inhibit their ability to perform simple functions.? In-home elder care focuses on helping your loved one maintain their independence while providing them with necessary services to ensure their good health.

Cost

Independent caregiving can be a significant investment of your physical, economic, and psychological resources.? While you should never hesitate to consider all of the best care options for your loved one, in-home elder care can ease the responsibility of independent caregiving and is often more affordable than comprehensive assisted living facilities.

Executive Home Care is a family-owned and operated senior home care business that has been providing in-home elder care for families in the Los Angeles area for over a decade.? With BBB-accreditation and several experienced professionals, we are committed to maintaining high-quality service for all of our clients.? Richard Chavez, farmworker union head, dies at 81 (AP)

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? Richard Chavez, who helped brother Cesar Chavez build the United Farmworkers of America, has died at the age of 81.

He passed away Wednesday at a Bakersfield hospital of complications from surgery, union spokeswoman Maria Machuca said.

"Richard understood that the struggle for a more perfect union and a better life for all America's workers didn't end with any particular victory or defeat, but instead required a commitment to getting up every single day to keep at it," President Barack Obama said in a statement.

Born on the family homestead near Yuma, Ariz., the two brothers left farm work in 1949, spending a year working together in lumber mills in Northern California, Machuca said.

Eventually dedicating himself to union work, Richard Chavez organized the farmworkers' boycotts of California table grapes and other products in New York and Detroit during the 1960s and `70s. He was in charge of administrating union contracts in 1970, and later negotiated UFW agreements and oversaw union bargaining, Machuca said.

Chavez also designed the black Aztec eagle, the union's flag, and oversaw construction and helped build most of the major structures on the farmworkers' "Forty Acres" complex outside Delano, Calif., which became the union's headquarters and where Chavez joined his brother in the Delano Grape Strike.

Chavez is survived by his long-time partner Dolores Huerta ? also a labor activist and farmworkers organizer ? and his estranged wife, Sally. He also leaves behind nine adult children and more than a dozen grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

"He knew how to deal with all kinds of people," said son Federico Chavez. "I don't think there was ever a person he didn't like."

Vegetarian Vegan Recipes: Easy & Healthy Standby Recipes For Your ...

Vegetarian Vegan Recipes: Easy & Healthy Standby Recipes For Your Vegan Kitchen

Have you ever heard the saying, ?Keep it simple?stupid??? In this article you?ll learn a few simple and delicious vegan recipes to add to your standby recipe collection.? Plus you?ll learn two beverage recipes to add to your daily routine for energized, healthy vegan living.

Breakfast: Wake up with a glass of water with lemon.? Slice a quarter of a lemon and squeeze it into an eight ounce glass of water.? Add a very small pinch of cayenne pepper powder.? Lemon has a positive affect on balancing your body?s pH while cayenne pepper powder has beneficial detox power.

After 20 minutes, enjoy the following ?green drink.?

In a blender or a 16 ounce glass with a lid or a Zyliss shaker, combine the following ingredients:

- 6 to 8 ounces of pure water

- 4 ounces of original or unsweetened rice milk

- 1 scoop of ?green drink? powder (cleanses vital organs, alkalizes your pH, there are many options for green drink powder at your local health food store.)

- 1 tablespoon of liquid chlorophyll.? Mint flavored chlorophyll can also be used.

- 1 tablespoon of flax seed oil (Essential omega 3, 6, & 9 fatty acids, promotes whole body well-being) Hemp seed oil can also be used for these benefits.

- 1 tablespoon of pure soy lecithin granules (supports brain & nerve function & energy production)

- 2 ounces of aloe vera juice or gel (supports digestion, organ and tissue function)

About a half hour after the green drink, a bowl of cereal is an easy standby.? One recommendation for cereal is Nature?s Path Hemp Plus granola combined with a rice, almond, or coconut milk.

Here?s a tip: Whichever cereal you choose, make sure the ingredient list does not include high fructose corn syrup.? High fructose corn syrup has been linked to increasing risk of obesity and diabetes.

Anytime Snack # 1: The combination of goji berries, raw chocolate nibs, and almonds will give you an antioxidant boost.? Almonds are also a healthy source of fat, which is ideal for energy that lasts.

Lunch: Sandwiches and wraps are easy standby vegan lunches.? The ingredients for this routine lunch option makes your grocery store list easy to remember.

For sandwiches and wraps, combine any combination of: a vegan bread or wrap with vegan mayo, mustard, hummus, avocado, spinach, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, and onion.? Vegan meat substitutes can imitate deli slices if you are new to being vegan.

Anytime Snack # 2: The Avocado Bowl.? Avocado is an alkaline food, which means it is good for your body?s pH.? After cutting an avocado in half and loosing the pit, two bowl-like spaces will remain.? You?ll enjoy adding fresh salsa or tabouli and then spooning up the goodness.

Dinner: Begin with a side salad that includes spinach, romaine lettuce, slices of radish, cucumber, and tomato.? Add a generous amount of parsley.? For a simple salad dressing, combine one teaspoon of olive oil with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar.

An easy standby vegan dinner recipe is whole wheat pasta or brown rice pasta combined with an organic red pasta sauce.? If you are new to being vegan, check your local health food store for imitation meatballs.? Adding these will make your pasta meal more hearty.? Or, if imitation meat products don?t tempt your taste buds, try adding steamed broccoli to your pasta dish for additional fiber.

BP Q2 earnings below forecast at $5.6 billion (AP)

LONDON ? BP PLC on Tuesday reported lower than expected earnings for the second quarter as it struggled to lift production in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Although the actual costs of the spill diminished, the fallout from the disaster continued to weigh on output, down 11 percent from pre-spill levels. The company said the damage to its reputation could have a long-lasting impact on its prospects.

BP reported a net profit of $5.6 billion for the three months ending June 30, compared with a loss of $17.2 billion a year earlier.

Replacement cost profit, a closely watched industry benchmark, was $5.3 billion compared with a loss of $17 billion a year earlier. The second quarter result was lower than the average analyst forecast of about $6 billion.

Last year's earnings were hit by a $32 billion charge for responding to the Gulf of Mexico crisis.

The lower-than-expected profit hit BP's shares. They were trading 2.5 percent lower at 463.45 pence ($7.58) as trading opened on the London Stock Exchange.

"In our opinion the key factor for investor sentiment is the long-term actions to restore the lost shareholder value," said Tony Shepard, analyst at Charles Stanley & Co. He said investors are waiting for an update on the company's strategy following the collapse of its Arctic exploration deal with Russia's Rosneft.

Richard Griffith, analyst at Evolution Securities, said BP's recovery was on track and affirmed a "buy" rating on the shares.

BP said it has so far paid $6.8 billion for economic and environmental restoration in the Gulf of Mexico, including $5.1 billion from a $20 billion trust fund to settle individual claims.

In the second quarter, payments from the trust fund totaled $2.1 billion, including $873 million to individual and business claimants.

The company said the majority of the cleanup on the U.S. Gulf coast was completed in the first three months of the year, while "limited" work continued on marshes and barrier islands. No further work is planned on the seabed, BP said.

The company acknowledged that "the Gulf of Mexico oil spill has damaged BP's reputation, which may have a long-term impact on the group's ability to access new opportunities, both in the U.S. and elsewhere."

In the short-term, the disaster has had a clear impact on BP's production levels.

During the second quarter, its oil and gas production was 3.43 million barrels of oil equivalent a day, down 11 percent from a year earlier, BP said that primarily reflected "the ongoing impacts to Gulf of Mexico production as a result of the suspension of drilling, and the continuing divestment program."

Full-year production is expected to remain close to that level, BP said.

Chief Executive Bob Dudley was upbeat about the company's prospects, saying he expects future cash flows to grow faster than output.

"We expect the momentum of our recovery to build into 2012 and 2013 as new projects come on stream, particularly in higher-margin areas; as we complete current turnaround activity; as we return to work in the Gulf of Mexico; and as uncertainties reduce," Dudley said.

Dudley added that 2011 had been "an unusually good year" for gaining access to resources, with new tracts awarded in Australia, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, the United Kingdom, the South China Sea and Trinidad.

2011 Deck ? Week 27 ? The Michael Lam Collection's Blog

In the last post I mentioned that I was thinking about the past and the future, and this post was to be the photo about the ?future? I was thinking about.

I recently spent a very packed week doing some ?sports? photography, something that I don?t do.? I was volunteered to assist with the photography of the Junior CASA (Caribbean Area Squash Association) Squash Tournament.? Squash is an indoor game, played on a ?closed? court, and in Guyana, there is very little area available for viewing, much less photographing the game.? The lighting on the courts is not exactly geared towards photography either, the courts are lit by flourescent lights (some more than others), three of them have glass backs, but the reflection in the glass are an obstacle by themselves!

I took photos in each of the five courts, two of them I had to shoot through the glass, no choice, two others have no glass wall, and I had to shoot from the spectator area above the back of the court, and the last court I shot through the glass, from the spectator area at the back of the court, and from windows high on the side of the court.

For simplicity I used the smallest lens I had, the 18-55mm, and since none pf my lens are particularly fast, it didn?t matter too much, I had to play a lot with ISO and shutter speeds? :-)

The photo I chose to use from that week is of one of the first round games of the tournament, as photos go, it?s not spectacular, but it shows the angle from which I was taking photos (up at the window), some athleticism demonstrated by the players, a small piece of the glass back-wall to the far left; it was taken at ISO800, with an aperture of f/5.0 and a shutter speed of 1/320.? During the afternoon I actually got up to those speeds, but as the time passed 5pm the light changed and getting any shutter speeds in the 1/200 vicinity was lucky? :-)

It was a learning experience, hours on hours shooting, hours and hours sorting the photos looking for acceptable ones, playing with camera settings just to get the shutter speed up!? The full gallery of photos from the tournament is at their home page, there are contributions from at least three photographers (all amateur) including myself.

I guess what made me think of the future for this photo, was that it was a Junior Tournament, so maybe some future great squash players, and for some of them (the players in the Under 19 category, like these two) it is their last year as Juniors, their future in Squash is with the Seniors.

CALL FOR PAPERS

??Social Media and Political Change?

Journal of Communication Special Issue (Revised Version 1.1)

http://faculty.washington.edu/pnhoward/publishing/jofcspecialissue.html

?Deadline : August 15, 2011

?The ?Arab Spring? as well as recent events in other parts of the world have demonstrated that new communication technologies, such as mobile phones and the internet, are simultaneously new tools for social movement organizing and new tools for surveillance by authoritarian regimes. ?Though communication theory necessarily transcends particular technologies, software, and websites, digital media have clearly become an important part of the toolkit available to political actors. ?These technologies are also becoming part of the research toolkit for scholars interested in studying the changing patterns in interpersonal, political, and global communication.

How have changing patterns of interpersonal, political, and global communication created new opportunities for social movements, or new means of social control by political elites? ?The role of social media in new patterns of communication is especially dramatic across North Africa and the Middle East, where decades of authoritarian rule have been challenged?with varying degrees of success. ?Social media?broadly understood as a range of communication technologies that allow individuals to manage the flow of content across their own networks of family, friends and other social contacts?seem to have had a crucial role in the political upheaval and social protest in several countries. ?Mass communication has not ceased to be important, but is now joined with a variety of other media with very different properties that may reinforce, displace, counteract, or create fresh new phenomena.

?Research on social media and political change outside North Africa and the Middle East is also welcome, especially if it is about countries and communities managed by authoritarian regimes, or by emerging democracies where democratic institutions and practises may be deepening or thinning. Also welcome are manuscripts on media industries, the political economy of telecommunications policy, and research that uses original data or existing data in original ways?as long as such manuscripts fit the thematic interest in social media and political change. Manuscripts should contribute to advancing our understanding of both social media and political change.

This Special Issue seeks original qualitative, comparative, and quantitative research on social media and political change, particularly as related to events in North Africa and the Middle East, but we are also receptive to work on political change in other parts of the developing world. ?We would welcome manuscripts from a diverse range of methodologies, and covering diverse communities and cultures. ?Methodological innovations or mixed method approaches are particularly encouraged, and manuscripts on the interpersonal and intergroup aspects of social movement organizing are central interest. ?Whatever the approach, our goal is to select manuscripts that are grounded in the actual use of social media in promoting or resisting political change in developing countries and regions.

If you have questions regarding the appropriateness of a potential submission, please contact Dr. Philip N. Howard (pnhoward@uw.edu<mailto:pnhoward@uw.edu>).

??Issue-Congruence and Political Communication in Representative Democracies?

?Jena/Dornburg, October 28-29, 2011

?There is widespread agreement within public and academic discussion that opinions and attitudes of representative elites, i.e. members of parliament, in democracies must in some sense reflect the opinions and attitudes of the population. This assumption provides the starting point for the comparison of representative elites and citizens in terms of issue-congruence. However, this discussion still exhibits blind spots and open questions.

?For instance, when it comes to clarify whether and under which circumstances issue-congruence provides an appropriate indicator for the quality of democracy the opinions begin to differ. Additionally, issue-congruence can be analyzed for a variety of issues and for different relations, e.g. between the entity of representative elites and the population within the same country, between individual parliamentarians and their constituencies or between party-elites and their followers. While all these perspectives provide important insights into the core of representative democracy, a comprehensive approach integrating these perspectives is still lacking.

?Further, only a few empirical studies analyze, if issue-congruence results out of responsive or out of leading political elites. Spoken more generally, the mechanisms underlying issue-(in)congruence need more attention. At this point the link to communication studies becomes obvious, because those mechanisms are necessarily based on communication between representative elites and citizens. Integrating these two perspectives may help deepen the understanding of both approaches. For instance, if we analyze the communication patterns of representative elites and citizens, could we actually identify strategies that are suited to achieve issue-congruence? Can the strategies of representative elites be subsumed in the dichotomy of leadership and responsiveness? Does the degree of issue-congruence differ dependent on the channel and type as well as on the sender and recipient of the communication?

?Especially the discussion about E-democracy depicts citizens as increasingly using the technical possibilities of Web 2.0 in order to bring ?their? political elites (successfully) in congruence with ?the? population. For representative elites the direct way of communication via Web 2.0 towards the voters provides them the possibility of individualized political communication, which may serve as tool to achieve issue-congruence for individual MPs by simultaneously distancing themselves from their party.

?In front of the sketched questions and desiderata in both fields of research the workshop aims to bring together scholars of issue-congruence with scholars from communication studies, not only to examine the empirical evidence for the mentioned questions and assumptions, but also to proceed to a general discussion on the relation between issue-congruence and communication. The workshop welcomes theoretical, empirical and methodological papers.

?The workshop will be hosted by the Collaborative Research Centre 580 at the Universities of Jena and Halle, Research Project A3 ?Representative Elites after the Regime Change?.

Please submit your abstracts via email to?lars.vogel@uni-jena.de<mailto:lars.vogel@uni-jena.de> until 1st of August, 2011.

Web Development

Since the mid-1990s web development has been one of the fastest growing industries in the world. There were less than 1000 web development companies in the US in 1995, ten years later that number had increased by 97 percent.

As a broad term, web development refers to every step of producing a website- from building it, to designing it, creating content for it and embedding social features. However, most members of the digital industry think of web development as the practice of writing code.

There are two main areas of code- client side coding and server side coding. Client side coding refers to what the user can experience on a web page. For instance, Adobe Flash Player is a software for viewing animations and movies. Microsoft Silverlight is a browser plugin for Microsoft that enables animation as well as vector graphics and high-definition video playback.

Server side coding is done for the server- a computer program running to serve the needs of other programs which may not be running on the same computer. These are codes that the server understands but not the user. Such coding includes ASP, PHP, CSP, ColdFusion and more.

Depending on the type of website you want to own as well as the sorts of marketing campaigns or programmes you want it to be able to run, code can be very simple or very complicated.

Service-based companies who are looking for client enquiries for instance, might want to keep their sites basic- with a few pages of need-to-know information including prices and contact details as well as ways to get in touch. These companies should make sure that their sites are easy to navigate and that their content answers all of the questions they imagine their target market would have.

A consumer brand with a big marketing budget however, might want to explore the potential of digital campaigns. French water brand, Perrier, for instance recently launched an online campaign on YouTube. The idea is the more people who watch it, the steamier it gets. The execution makes it very easy to share the campaign with friends and followers on Facebook, Twitter and other social sharing platforms.

Web developers understand the language of computers, they are builders and often gamers as well. The more complicated the programme, the bigger the challenge. Web developers work with designers and user-experience experts to create an online experience for users that is simple, stimulating and gets them to where they need to go.

Hulu launches British kitchen comedy "Whites" (Reuters)

NEW YORK (TheWrap) ? "Whites," a BBC comedy set in a chaotic kitchen, launched on Hulu on Wednesday, another part in the online video hub's recent strategy to import under-the-radar content from the U.K.

Last week, Hulu launched "The Booth at the End," a stylized psychological thriller about a mysterious wish-granter (played by "Nikita" co-star Xander Berkeley) who may or may not be the devil.

In June, the website exclusively debuted "Misfits," a dramedy about troubled youths with superpowers that is a legitimate hit in Europe.

And now comes "Whites," which aired for six episodes last fall on the BBC but did not receive an order for a second, despite generally positive reviews.

Alan Davies wears the executive chef's hat but, having become jaded 15 years after nearly achieving celebrity status, now delegates nearly every kitchen task to his much put-upon sous-chef (Darren Boyd), a habit that predictably vexes his disgruntled staff.

The comedy plays out like a fictional version of a Gordon Ramsay reality show, only with less spiky hair and fewer people yelling.

97% Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

All Critics (229) | Top Critics (39) | Fresh (222) | Rotten (7)

In the 10 years since Harry's first big- screen close-up, the spell has never been broken. And we Muggles have been made better for the magic.

When the movie was over, a young boy sitting behind me said, "That was great!" He was satisfied, and rightly so.

This is the way The Harry Potter saga was meant to end.

Fasten your seat belts. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2is an emotional roller-coaster ride.

The best possible end for the series that began a decade ago.

The final chapter ends with an epilogue that puts a lump in your throat and makes you want to watch them all again from the beginning. That's the definition of a classic.

We're a long way from the hijinks and humour of earlier episodes. Be prepared instead for a dark and thrilling ride.

While 'Deathly Hallows: Part 2' brings closure to the sprawling saga, the primary reason to see the film is because it's entertaining.

With nothing left to tell, the grand finale to the Harry Potter saga holds nothing back.

There are moments of wit, fear, imagination and grace that one remembers over the years, but they are scattered among the long drawn-out, meandering narrative.

The movie still looks drab, dark and blah but Yates has finally made a Harry Potter movie fans can be proud of and sends this Franchise off on a high note.

One of the best of the eight films Deathly Hallows: Part 2 might indeed require a scorecard for the uninitiated, but for those in the know, it's a more than suitable ending for a decade-long journey that was truly magical.

begins with a bang and doesn't stop.

A satisfying roller coaster ride that Harry Potter fans have been waiting for since the beginning.

Sharply directed and appropriately tear-jerking, imbued with the gravitas of such an epic finale.

It's a bucket of maraschino cherries and whipped cream after no supper. It's a two-plus hour climax without an ounce of foreplay. A fireworks grand finale without a single sparkler cooling off in Uncle Joe's Pabst can.

More than ever, Radcliffe is asked to take control of the screen as his boy wizard faces his own demons before finally facing Voldemort, and the talented thespian is up to the task, holding nothing back in an ofttimes ferocious performance.

"A worthy conclusion to the series, providing numerous worthwhile payoffs to J.K. Rowling's wizard saga."

A fitting finale and bittersweet good-bye to the boy wizard who is no longer a boy.

This splendid final HP film uses special effects to full advantage, thereby increasing the thrill of watching Harry and his friends try to defeat the evil Lord Voldemort.

If ever there was a critic-proof film, this is most certainly it - but, pleasingly, it's so good that it doesn't have to be.

(Director David) Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves have lovingly transported (Rowling's) vision to the most satisfying finale, truly grand, in film history.

Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is everything a Potter fanatic could want in a franchise capper.

... a mostly satisfying coda, with nostalgic 360 return to Hogwarts ... Potter faithful will find a sizable lump in their throats as the music wells and intrepid threesome take their places in carefully staged tableaux.

Merely translating the events of the novel would have been easy, but Deathly Hallows Part 2 - like all its predecessors - invests the story with a cinematic life all its own.

The Potter universe, magical as it is, is more grounded in heart and soul than many fictions. You don't read Harry Potter to escape, you read Harry Potter to find your way.

dutabesar.info ? Education Versus Training

The net has given us many gifts throughout the years ? from music and video game codes to not so G-rated material. Therefore, it is no surprise that e-learning has made such a big splash in the web world. Among the past ten years, online education and internet coaching has provided many individuals with a new incentive to learn.

But from where will a person get educated.
The basic education initiate when child start going to school. However, the procedure of edification does not only start when a child 1st attends school. Education actually begins at home. An individual does not gain understanding solely from a tutor; he can get it from parent, family members and even by self grasping. Basically the first school of a kid is his/her home and first teacher is his/her mother tuition assignments singapore. It is a holistic process and persists throughout the life.

Now -a-days, we notice that there?s over-crowding within the classes of higher education also. The ratio of lecturers as compared to pupils is terribly low and the teachers don?t have any personal feelings with the students. And thus higher education is examination ridden.

Straightforward and shortcut strategies are being adopted to realize success tuition agency singapore. The students are getting fascinated to all or any things except books. The dependence on the Examinations only is the main cause of deterioration in our education system. No real or practical data is gained by the students. There is a big gap between the practical life and education in colleges. Going to high schools seems to be a place of enjoyment in paradise for the students. However, their rosy dreams are shattered once they come out of colleges and enter the actual life singapore tuition agency. They have to come disappointed once they search for a service from door to door. It is thanks to purely technical education given to them.

Certainly, today it won?t be wrong to say that early childhood education is the key part that helps in building a god foundation for child?s educational success. Each child learns habit and form patterns that aren?t simply changed in later years. If folks and educators can develop productive early education patterns for the youngsters in their charge, those children can be on their way to achieving nice educational success.

The main causes of moral degeneration are: Lack of respect for the sanctity of human life. Breakdown of parental control of children in families Disregard for authority, seen through the brazen breaking of the law and
