No matter how you describe it the web is a content medium whether that be in the written form, audio or video and as Information Marketers we should also be content producers (whether we create it ourselves or have others do it for us.)
I often get asked if I ever run out of ideas and I can honestly say that I never have, and in most cases I always have more information to use than ever needed.
Producing Content Your Market Wants
It is very easy to produce information on a certain topic; a quick search of the web will give you all the ideas you need. HOWEVER, the key is to provide information your market wants and is looking for.
One place I always visit for ideas is Yahoo answers: http://answers.yahoo.com
Here people post questions they want answers to and other users can give their answers to the questions. I use Yahoo Answers in a number of different ways:
? To see what questions people want answering in my market
? Are there any reoccurring themes
I then have a number of options available to me. I can use those questions to create:
? Articles for my blog, website or newsletter etc
? A free report (lead magnet) for a squeeze page
? An outline for an audio program to be recorded
? An outline for a video to be recorded
? An outline for a video answer. If the questions are around "how do I do something on my computer" then make a short video
? If not I can record a simple PowerPoint slideshow video showing the answer.
? Finally I could compile a set of related questions and give them to my writer to create an eBook from.
In most cases I'll find, or have my writers' find, our own answers to the questions to make sure I am unique and not infringing anybody's copywrite, but there's nothing stopping you using the answers on the site as a starting point when creating your content.
The key point is that you will have found a topic, (market), where people want answers to their problems? and your answers will have them buy your products!
Important Tip
Please don't copy the answers directly from the page and always double-check the facts. Never, ever be a lazy marketer? be an intelligent one? it's not much more effort but far more rewarding both personally and financially!
How it works
Today I typed in the word "cycling" and Yahoo Answers returned 400,150 related questions. Taking a look at the top 10 questions there are 36 answers ranging from "How to get started" to "Fitness", "Diet" and "Different types of cycling activities".
You can see from this example the vast range of questions people want answers to from just one topic? and that's only the top 10 questions.
Using this topic alone will provide you with enough ideas, questions and content to keep you busy for years!
Imagine you now wanted to write an eBook on cycling; you could start by simply listing each question and then writing an answer.
Taking the top 10 questions you would provide three answers to each. Each question therefore would typically take up 2-3 pages? 10 questions = 20-30 pages in your eBook. That's enough to sell at $10.
Take 25 questions and produce a 50-75 page eBook and you can sell it for $17-$20. All for a few hours work researching and writing rather than scratching your head about what market to create products in!
Final Bonus Tip
You can use Yahoo Answers to bring traffic to your website BUT you have to be careful in the way you do it.
Look through questions related to your market and see if you can answer any. In your answer you can use a link...but DO NOT link directly back to your selling website.
If you use a link, link out to one of your articles or blogs that is related to the question or maybe even a short video you have made showing your answer in action (depends on the topic of course), then use the article, blog or video to inform the reader of your main selling site.
Why? Well put simply, If you link to your selling site, or an affiliate product, it violates Yahoos T&Cs; your post will be removed and you may find your account deleted.
Listen: Never shortcut the process... Just do it right and make sure you help the person asking the question. You'll be well rewarded if you do!
