1. Philippines: In 2000, ethnic Chinese made up just 1% of the population of the Philippines , but controlled 40% of the Philippines private economy.

2. Indonesia: ethnic Chinese made up just 3% of the population in Indonesia, but controlled 70% of the Indonesian private economy.

3. In Singapore, a nation with an ethnic Chinese majority population (75%)

4. Malaysia: Chinese made up 5% of the population of the Malaysia, but controlled 50% of the private economy.

5. Thailand: The present Thai monarch, Chakri Dynasty, was founded by King Rama I, who himself was partly Chinese. His predecessor, King Taksin of Thonburi Dynasty, was the son of Chinese immigrants from Guangdong Province and was born with a Chinese name.

6. Burma: four of the five largest commercial banks in Myanmar were all founded by Chinese.

7. Cambodia: Prime Minister Hun Sen is Chinese descent
