Rip It Like Rickie: Cobra Golf Launches AMP Driver In Fowler?s Favorite Color

Want some color in your golf bag? Check out Cobra Golf's Rickie Fowler-inspired neon orange driver.

Jun 28, 2012 - To the legion of Rickie Fowler fans who swarm to the field whenever the young bomber's in the game, Sunday Orange is the new red and black. Now, thanks to Cobra Golf, Fowler followers may tee it up with their own AMP driver in Rickie?s signature neon orange.

Available in limited quantities in August, the Special Edition Orange AMP Driver could give Bubba Watson?s pink Ping G20 big stick something to think about.

"This Special Edition driver embodies what Cobra Golf is bringing to the game of golf, a desirable package of performance, innovation and style," Bob Philion, president of Cobra Puma Golf, said in a statement. "We are building on the success and strong performance of our current AMP line with an exciting limited edition that will resonate with Rickie?s fans."

While TaylorMade has grabbed the market share of white-headed bats, Cobra was actually the first club maker to release a pearly driver -- the ZL, in 2010. Company executives had hinted for some time that they had a colorful club on the drawing table and the Fowler driver is certainly flashy.

The Fowler-inspired Special Edition Orange AMP has a vibrant orange crown, a vibrant orange and black PVD sole, and matching vibrant orange Mitsubishi Diamana Whiteboard shaft and Lamkin R.E.L. 3Gen grip. It will also come with a vibrant orange head cover and ship to consumers in a custom Cobra AMP vibrant orange box.

"We had a few rounds of samples until we found the right Sunday Orange color and then we decided to use the same shaft I play on Tour," said Fowler of his work with the Cobra R&D team. "It has been performing great in testing and has a cool new look and edge to it. I think fans will love it."

For tech geeks, here are the specs:

  • E9 Face Technology with dual roll -- An elliptical face featuring a new canted bulge with dual-roll design provides more distance to shots hit above and below the centerline
  • Adjustable Flight Technology (AFT) -- Three face-angle settings (open, neutral, and closed) optimize ball flight for increased distance and improved accuracy
  • Advanced Material Placement -- Computer modeling and simulation let designers thin walls to save weight and redistribute up to 15 grams of mass deep and back in the club head to maximize distance through optimized launch conditions
  • Mitsubishi Diamana White Board shaft -- Provides optimum feel and stability through impact

Starting Aug. 1, the driver will retail for $499 and be available in men?s right-handed lofts of 9.5 and 10.5 degrees in stiff and regular flexes.
